About
Tekno (often misspelled as Techno) is a genre of electronic dance music characterized by a fast, driving beat, often repetitive synth melodies, and a generally dark and industrial sound. It emerged from the European underground rave scene and encompasses various subgenres.
History
Tekno's origins are traced to the early 1990s European rave scene, particularly in Germany and the UK. It drew inspiration from Detroit techno and Chicago house, but developed a harder, faster, and more distorted sound. Early tekno was often associated with illegal raves and DIY sound systems. The genre evolved into numerous subgenres, including gabber, hardcore, and darkcore.
