About

Techno is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) characterized by a repetitive four-on-the-floor beat, typically produced for use in a continuous DJ set. It often features synthesized sounds, minimal melodies, and a futuristic or industrial aesthetic.

History

Techno originated in Detroit, Michigan, in the early to mid-1980s. Influenced by electronic music pioneers like Kraftwerk, as well as Chicago house, funk, and electro, Detroit techno innovators such as Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, Derrick May, and Eddie Fowlkes created a new sound that was both danceable and experimental. These "Belleville Three" (Atkins, May, Saunderson) are widely credited with creating what is known as Detroit Techno. The music quickly spread to Europe, particularly Germany and the UK, where it developed its own regional variations and subgenres.
