About
Acid techno is a subgenre of techno characterized by the squelching sounds of the Roland TB-303 synthesizer. It's known for its hypnotic, repetitive patterns and experimental sound design, often used in late-night club environments.
History
Acid techno emerged in the mid-to-late 1980s, building upon the foundation laid by acid house. Chicago house producers were experimenting with the Roland TB-303 synthesizer, manipulating its controls to create unique, resonating sounds. As techno developed in Detroit and Europe, these acid sounds were incorporated, leading to the creation of acid techno. Its popularity grew within the underground rave scene.
