About

Drum and bass (often abbreviated as D&B, DnB, or drum & bass) is a genre of electronic music characterized by fast breakbeats (typically 160–180 bpm) with heavy bass and sub-bass lines.

History

Emerged from the UK rave scene in the early 1990s as an offshoot of breakbeat hardcore. Producers began to isolate the breakbeats, speed them up, and add heavier basslines, influenced by soundsystem culture and reggae. Key labels like Reinforced Records and Moving Shadow helped to define the genre in its early years.
